LUDACRIS HELPS ATLANTA KIDS GET READY TO GO BACK TO SCHOOL
Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, The Ludacris Foundation, and the DTP team to help over 1000 Metro Atlanta children to get prepared
for their return to school
Atlanta, GA – “We want to express the importance of education and starting the school year off right” said Ludacris. So on Sunday, August 13th, 2006, Ludacris and The Ludacris Foundation will take part in two separate events aimed at helping Atlanta youth get ready for the 2006 school year.
In one event The Ludacris Foundation is a sponsor of HOT 107.9s Hot Cutz. This event is open to the public and will cover metro Atlanta students. The event will start at 2pm and end at 6pm and be held at the Adamsville Recreation Center on 3201 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Atlanta, GA. It is expected that between 600 – 800 kids will receive hair cuts or get their hair braided. The Ludacris Foundation will provide school supplies for the event. Entertainment and other surprises are planned.
The second event is a private event organized by The Ludacris Foundation for Clayton County Schools’ 4th – 8th graders. Approximately 200 – 300 needy students selected by school counselors will participate in an afternoon of food, fun, entertainment, and education. Ludacris and The Ludacris Foundation teamed with Puma, Wellcare, DTLR, Azzure, DTP, CP Time, Sam’s Club, Marsha’s Angels, and Pepsi to provide these students with shoes, shirts, school supplies, food, and health & dental screenings. The event will start at 1:30pm and end at 5:30pm and be held at an undisclosed site in Jonesboro, GA. (Media should call for exact location)
“Our major focus is youth – it is our mission; it is our passion; it is what we do” stated Roberta Shields, President of The Ludacris Foundation. The Foundation helps people year around through our LudaCares Program. “We wanted to do something to help prepare the kids for their first day back to school – It’s a great feeling to start school with new shoes, new clothes, and new supplies.”
The Ludacris Foundation is a non-profit organization, created by the artist Ludacris, to help young people achieve their dreams. "We aim to show young people that they are builders of their future" said Kim Hutchens, Executive Director of the Ludacris Foundation. The event is a part of the Foundation's LudaCares Initiative. The LudaCares Initiative is dedicated to supporting youth and families in need.
