| Our Living Healthy program promotes healthy eating and healthier decision-making by conducting interactive seminars geared toward youth to learn about healthy eating, food groups and kitchen safety. This program addresses issues such as nutritional health, physical activity and childhood obesity. Youth participate in preparing a healthy meal while learning more about healthy eating habits and lifestyle changes. Youth also receive simple and easy instructions on how to prepare healthy meals at home.
Some of our Lifestyles experiences:
- Youth work hands on with professional chefs to create foods that are healthy and delicious while learning more about food preparation, ingredients and etiquette. Youth also participate in a rap session to discuss everyday challenges and choices they face in making the right food choices. Program materials, which are distributed, include health living guides, cookbooks and activities for youth to take home to engage their parents in the fun and learning to eat healthy. Over 300 youth have participated in this event since its inception. Some sessions have been held at STRAITS Atlanta, owned by Chris “Ludacris” Bridges.
- Health Fairs are conducted at our annual Back 2 School event, which provide preventive health services and education to under-served youth. Vision, dental and health screenings are conducted to ensure youth are able to get a healthy start for the first day of school. Over 2,500 youth in attendance have been able start school with a clean bill of health.
- Our Runaway Love program focuses on building awareness of counseling services for at-risk youth to prevent runaways as well as get youth off the street and into healthy environments. We partner with the National Runaway Switchboard to reach runaways around the world. Although all runaways don’t return home, our partnership has assisted in helping over 850 runaways return to their families.
- Ludacris is proud to be a Planet Green spokesperson. After participating in the Discovery Channel’s “Battleground Earth – Planet Green” series with renown rock star, Tommy Lee, Ludacris has promoted environmental health initiatives such as “green tips” to promote recycling and living in a more environmentally friendly environment. These practices are shared with youth at all events.
- CDC Act Against Aids and Youth AIDS campaign increases awareness and prevention about the issues surrounding AIDS. We are proud to partner in the annual campaign AIDS prevention with the CDC in order to build awareness on educating youth on the devastating circumstances surrounding AIDS. The CDC has conducted nearly 1.4 million HIV tests to date.
- Youth are exposed to baseball and basketball sporting events where they attend sports clinics with the players and learn about the importance of being a team player, the importance of physical fitness and the fundamentals of the game. This experience provides youth with the opportunity of interacting with sports figures to talk about their dreams and aspirations of becoming a sports figure.
