“Last year we were successful in helping hundreds
of Atlanta children start the school year off right. I
enjoyed seeing the smiles on the faces of so many
kids when I handed them shoes and book bags
and school supplies,” said Ludacris. So on Friday,
August 3rd, 2007, Ludacris and The Ludacris
Foundation held their second Back to School event
aimed at helping Atlanta youth get ready for the
2007/2008 school year.
The private event started at 10am with a fitness
Olympiad with games and prizes, courtesy of
Sony’s film Daddy Day Camp and culminated with
the Back to School distribution from 1pm to 4pm.
The fair was held at the Pleasant Hill Community
Center in Roswell, GA.
Ludacris and The Ludacris Foundation teamed
with NBA player Jarvis Hayes, The Jarvis Hayes
Foundation, Sam’s Club, Brown & Co. Jewelers,
DTP, GM, WellCare, KoolSmiles and Prevent
Blindness of Georgia to provide students with shoe
vouchers from Nike, school supplies, food, and
health screenings.
Approximately 200 kids from the Sandy Springs
and Roswell area participated and received athletic
shoe vouchers, dental and vision screenings,
hair cuts and more. The Ludacris Foundation
and its partners also provided school supplies,
entertainment, a reading corner featuring Briana’s
Neighborhood children’s author Sahar Simmons
and other surprises for the event.
“We wanted to do something to help prepare the
kids for their first day back to school – It’s a great
feeling to start school with new shoes and new
supplies,” stated Roberta Shields, President of The
Ludacris Foundation.
