ABOUT THE RUNAWAY LOVE CAMPAIGN
November is National Runaway Prevention Month. Ludacris, The Ludacris Foundation and the National Runaway Switchboard (NRS) first joined forces in 2006 for a public education campaign spearheaded by the National Runaway Switchboard and the National Network for Youth. The goals of National Runaway Prevention Month are to:
- Increase national awareness of issues facing runaways
- Educate every American about solutions and the role each person – teen, parent, teacher, police officer – can play in preventing youth from running away
- Increase awareness of supporting programs
- Help keep at-risk youth safe and off the streets
The mission of the National Runaway Switchboard is to keep America's runaway and at-risk youth safe and off the streets. Runaway and at-risk youth and their parents can call 1-800-RUNAWAY or visit www.1800RUNAWAY.org for help, information and resources. The National Runaway Switchboard's 1-800-RUNAWAY crisis hotline is anonymous, confidential, non-judgmental, free, and is available 24-hours a day to runaways and anyone in need of assistance with a runaway.
HOME FREE PROGRAM
Throughout 2005, the NRS Home Free program, a partnership with Greyhound Lines, Inc., continued to help runaway youth. On average 37 bus tickets were issued per month. 86% of the tickets issued were out of state tickets. On average 23 females and 14 males utilized the Home Free program monthly.
